- A new "transparency" capability has been added on Macintosh OS X (only). We added a new parameter at the end of "SXEventOpt". It is an integer that represents the transparency percent (a value from 0 to 100, or -1), where 0 is no transparency, and 100 is fully transparent. A value of -1 reflects no change. We are researching how to add this capability on Windows.

JExternal、JbyJ v.12 について

６月３日、4D v12がリリースされました。弊社4DプラグインJExternal、JbyJ、G.M.Aの最新バージョンは、4D v11同様、32ビット版4D v12上で動作します。しかし、64ビット版4D v12上では動作しません。現在のところ、64ビット版4D v12は、4Dパートナー向けの4D Server（ベータ版）のみが存在し、一般ユーザーは使用できません。また、スタンドアロン版もMac版もありません。したがって、その影響は少ないものと思われます。弊社4Dプラグインを64ビット化するか、しないか、64ビット化するとしたらいつその作業を行うかについては、4D社の今後の動向を見て判断したいと思います。64ビット化するにあたっての技術的問題は、それほどないものと考えています。

[その他]

「論理工房からのお知らせ」で何度も紹介している4Dのバグ（バグID：ACI0061727）は、残念ながら4D v12でも修正されていません。このバグは、C_POINTER型のパラメタ変数（$1, $2...）をプラグインメソッドに渡すとエラーになるというもので、JExternal、JbyJに限らず、他社のプラグインでも発生する4Dのバグです。v2004以前の4Dと初期のv11では発生せず、4D v11.2から発生している不思議なバグです。このバグは、下記のように、一度ローカル変数に代入してからプラグインメソッドに渡すことで回避することができます。

QMedical is now packaged as a cross-platform, bundled plug-in, supporting 4D versions 2004.x and 11.3 or later.
QMedical is a Universal Binary, i.e. it runs natively on both PPC and Intel-based Macs when used with 4D v11.x.
DICOM images with non-square pixels now display correctly.
Smooth zooming now supported in the plug-in area via the QMed_ExportMovie command (also available in the advanced properties dialog).
The plug-in area now supports scrolling using the mouse wheel. The mouse wheel scrolls the plug-in area vertically, or horizontally when the Shift key is also pressed.
Implemented a workaround for a problem in QuickTime/Win versions later than 7.3, where the short pathname was returned instead of the long one.

Fixed bugs:

Potential crash during startup in 4D 2004.x on Mac OS X. Fixed.

■ JExternal／JbyJ 6.0.0の共通の変更点
（１）Windows用のJava実行環境（JRE）が、Javaバーチャルマシンを起動するためのプラグイン「JWorld」中に内蔵されました。弊社プラグインを使用するために、Java実行環境をインストールする必要がなくなりました。「JRE version 6 Update 18」が、内蔵Java実行環境として使用されます。
（２）製品を紹介するWebページが更新されました。
（３）マニュアルが更新されました。
（４）デモが更新されました。

■ JExternal 6.0.0の変更点
（１）デザインモードのファイルメニュー「開く...」を使用して、ストラクチャーを切り替えたとき、「JavaClasses」のクラスは、すべてアンロードされ、「JavaClasses」は、新しいものに切り替わるようになりました。これまでのJExternalでは、ストラクチャーが切り替わったても、「JavaClasses」が切り替わることはなく、最初の「JavaClasses」が最後まで使用されました。

■ JbyJ 6.0.0の変更点
（１）JbyJ 6.0.0は、4D v11に付属するプラグイン開発キットで作成されたため、v2004以下の古い4Dでは動作しません。4D v11 以上が必要です。しかし、JbyJ ver. 6.0.0を使用している4D v11から、古い4D上のメソッドを呼び出したり、逆に古い4Dから、4D v11上のプロジェクトメソッドを呼び出すことは可能です。

（２）4D v11 に付属するプラグイン開発キットで作成されたプラグインの内部では、C_TEXTとC_STRINGの区別がありません。これにより、JbyJ ver. 6.0.0を使用している4D v11と、v2004以下の古い4D間でのコミュニケーションにおいて、変数タイプの不一致により、エラーが発生する場合があります。今後、他の4Dのメソッドに渡す引数やメソッドの結果としてC_STRINGとARRAY STRINGを使用することを避けてください。

その他のお知らせ

■JExternal 6.0.0とJbyJ 6.0.0は、先日リリースされた4D v11.6でテストされています。前回の「論理工房からのお知らせ」でも紹介したプラグインメソッドを呼ぶ時に、次のような記述をするとエラーにという4Dのバグは、残念ながら4D v11.6でも修正されていません。

■Mac OS 10.4のJava 5の使用する日本語のデフォルトエンコーディングは、SJISでした。Mac OS 10.5のJava 5では、これがUTF8に変更されました。そして、Mac OS 10.6のJava 6でまたSJISに戻りました。このような変更は、以前のJExternal／JbyJにとってはとても重大なものでした。しかし、ver 6.0.0を含むver 5.0.0以上のJExternal／JbyJにとって何の影響もありません。4D v11に付属するプラグイン開発キットで作成されたプラグインには、4Dからユニコードが渡されるので、JExternal／JbyJは単にそれをそのままJavaに渡すだけだからです。文字コード変換は、もうJExternal／JbyJの内部で行われていません。

■ JExternal 5.0.2のリリースについて
昨日、JExternalの新バージョン 5.0.2をリリースいたしました。JExternal 5.0.2 では、JExternal 5.0.0 で発生したメモリリークが修正されていることに加え、4Dの配列やBLOB型のパラメタをJavaメソッドに渡す際のパフォーマンスが向上しています。JExternal 5.0.2 は、11月25日に４D社からリリースされた 4D v11 r5 でテストされています。

■ 4D v11 r5のバグについて
2008年8月11日の「論理工房からのお知らせ」で紹介した4D v11 r2のバグが、r5でも修正されていません。このバグは、プラグインメソッドを呼ぶ時、次のような記述がエラーになるバグです：

C_POINTER($1) `配列へのポインタ
Plugin_Method($1->)

このバグは、4D v11 r2から出現したバグで、4D v6.x、v200x、v11 r1には、このバグはありません。今年の４月、4D v11 r4がリリースされた直後、私はこのバグについて4D社に報告し、バグID「ACI0061727」としてバグリストに登録されました。このバグが登録された時から現在まで、このバグの状態（Status）は、「Already registered」のままです。「Already registered」とは、次のことを意味します：

１）4Dのバグであることを認める。
２）私の報告の前に、すでに誰かによって、同様のバグが報告され、バグリストに登録されている。
３）このバグは、まだ修正されていない。

ということで、残念ながら、次回以降のバージョンアップに期待しなければなりません。以前から、JExternalのデモでは、Plugin_Method($1->)のような記述を多用していました。皆様のプログラムの中でも、もしこのような記述があれば、4D v11 r2〜r5では、エラー（エラー番号：-17005）になりますので、注意が必要です。

このバグは、次のようにパラメタ変数を直接プラグインメソッドに渡さず、一度ローカル変数またはプロセス変数に代入してから、プラグインメソッドに渡すことで回避できます：

■ Windows版Java Runtime Environment（JRE）の配布について
Sun Microsystems社は、Java Runtime Environment（JRE）5.0以降から、開発者が作成したアプリケーションとともにJREを自由に配布できるように、ライセンスを変更しました。JExternalでは、デフォルトでインストールされるJRE以外にも、任意の場所のJREを起動することができますので、JExternal_xxx.bundleフォルダの中にJREを入れて配布することなどが可能になります。こうすることにより、Mac OS同様、わざわざJREをインストールする必要がなくなり、ユーザーはJavaを意識することなく皆様が作成したアプリケーションを利用できるようになります。最近、このような事例が、アメリカでありました。

Version 1.5b4 introduces the following new methods and constants:

QG_SetAreaBackgroundColor(areaRef(L);backColor(L)):error(L)

Changes the background color of the plug-in area. The background color is specified in 4D's 0xRRGGBB format.

QG_GetAreaBackgroundColor(areaRef(L);backColor(L)):error(L)

Retrieves the background color of the plug-in area. The background color is returned in 4D's 0xRRGGBB format.

大変、ご迷惑をかけしています。

実はこちらで受託開発の為にサーバのメール・アプリケーションとFrontBase データベース・アプリケーションを最新にする必要があった。
システムも OSX Server 10.5.7 最新です。

ただ、K's Room の注文を受け付けるアプリケーションが 4D 2003 で、起動しても30分で落ちるのです。
もちろん、4D 2004 へ移行すると思うとエラーが3000件もでるのです。2003版ではエラーなかたのに。

今、受託開発の時間の合間でそのアプリケーションにも変更の最中で、今価格が見られるように新しいオンライン・ストアの準備中です。

皆さん、こんにちは

今年１月より３月までに息子の病気で戦っていましたので、ホームページの更新、サポートやメールは
なかなか処理できずでご迷惑をかけしていました。息子は13歳でなかなか病気の原因が分からず、
結構した時間が過ぎてしまいました。超音波、MRI、胃カメラなどなどのすべての調査をし、やっと
原因が分かり、正しい薬によってやっと退院ができました。病気は完全には直せないのですが、
毎日、約１０週類の薬で何とか正常の生活に戻りました。

いろいろご迷惑をかけてごめんなさい。これから、メールなどの作業を処理します。

Apple社のJavaバーチャルマシンでは、Mac OS 8〜10.4まで、デフォルトの文字エンコーディングとして「Shift_JIS」が採用されていましたが、Mac OS 10.5では、「UTF-8」が採用されています。この変更により、弊社Java関連4Dプラグイン JExternal／JbyJ／JWorldを、これまでのように使用すると日本語の文字バケが発生しますので、ご注意ください。

4D のバージョンアップ　v.11 もありまして、プラグインの整理を行います。実際、対応していない、又は人気がない商品を販売中止になります。

第一の販売中止商品は「DataPulse」です。

この商品はプラグインよりも、ストラクチャ設計ツールでした。こちらも何回かのプロジェクトを使っていましたので、結構便利だったのですが、
4Dの開発では前もって設計を行っている人は殆どなく、その場でストラクチャを変更している人が多いのが聞いています。

JExternal　と 4D v11

4D V11 Release 2 でJExternalを使用する場合には、少々注意が必要ですので、お知らせいたします。
なお、V11 Release 2の4D Serverでは、4D Clientが4Dに統合されるなどいろいろと変更がありますが、JbyJ／JExternalに関しては、これまでと同様に使用することができます。

JExternalを使用して、Javaメソッドを呼ぶ場合、通常次のようなコードを記述します(Javaのint型の引数を１つ取るstaticメソッドを呼ぶ例)：

このように記述していてば、4D V11 Release 2でも問題ありません。
しかし、直接プラグインメソッドを記述せず、より一般化するために、次のように最後の行を別メソッドにすることもよく用いられる手法です：

4D V6 から 4D V11 Release 1までは、CallJavaMethodメソッドは、次のようなコードでOKでした：

ところが、4D V11 Release 2では、これがエラー（エラー番号：-17005）となります。JEX Call class methodの第３引数には、ポインタ配列が必要ですが、4Dからプラグインには、第３引数がREAL型となって渡されてしまうためです。下記の4D iNUGのメールのように、他のプラグインでも同様の問題が発生しています：

4D V11 Release 2に付属する最新のプラグインSDKを使用して、テストプラグインを作成してテストしてみたのですが、結果は同じでした。これは、4D V11 Release 2のバグと思われます。4D V11 Release 3以降のバージョンで、この問題が解決されることを期待しますが、とりあえずの対処法を紹介します。上記のコードに次の２行を追加し、最後の行を少し変更すると、このバグから逃れられます：

つまり、パラメタがC_POINTER型の場合、プラグインメソッドに直接渡さず、一度変数に代入してから、プラグインメソッドに渡せば、このバグから逃れられるということです。

4D V11用のJExternalのデモでは、この問題の影響を受けることはありませんでしたが、JExternal を使用しているJbyJのデモでは、このバグのため、V11 Release 2を使用した場合、正しく動作できなくなってしまいました。そこで、上記のように追加／変更して、８月１１日に再アップロードしました。

サーバと開発マシンその後

前回の問題の続き

やっと、全部復帰したと思ったのですが、実際約1週間後にはディスプレイが真っ黒です。
何をしても真っ黒でした。

...

嫌な予感はしたのですが、一応アップルセンターに持っていった。アップルの技術者（友達）がこれは
見たことがない。マシンは正常に動作しているのに、内部ディスプレイも外部ディスプレイの信号がない。

三日程待って、ロジックボードの交換です。運良くアップルケアには加入しているので、安心！！！

ロジックボード交換完了と思ったら....　（泣く）

※　iPhone, iPod, AppleTV の全部再同期

再度　サーバ不都合とメール問題

こんにちは

最近1ヶ月半で次々に問題が発生して泣いていました。

最初は前にも書いた通りでWebサーバのプロバイダーの設定変更でWebサーバが見られなくなくなることが発生していました。
そこでWebサーバぼ場所を変えて、アメリカの大きなデータセンターに変更しました。
あれからWebも快適に早くもなりました。

問題解決したと思ったところで、...

開発マシンのタイムマシンのハードディスクがクラッシュ！！あああ、半年のバックアップは消えた。ソースの履歴も...
まあ、本番のデータが大丈夫ならと思い、次の日にメイン開発マシンのMac Book Pro 17インチのハードディスクが音をするのではないか...　（汗）

バックアップがないのに、これはないでしょう！すぐにタイムマシンのハードディスクを購入し、バックアップを取った。問題なくすべてバックアップ
できたのです。　（安心）

MacBook Pro はまだ保証内ので、アップル・センターで依頼した。ディスクが在庫がなかったため、２，３日末ことになった。
アップルがディスク・クローンをできる為、新ディスクをケースに入れて貸していただきました。（感謝）

新ディスクをクローンした後でハードディスク交換を行いまして、再起動してみたところで私はまだ（幸せ）

そう、タイムマシンを接続して、仕事仕事....

あら、タイムマシン・バックアップがないぞう！（真っ青）

タイムマシン・バックアップがクラッシュした、初期不良かな？すぐにディスクを交換することにした。（危機一髪）

タイムマシンも回復して、すべての悪夢が終わったと思いましたが、何がメール数が少ないが気付いた...

今までに使用したメール・サーバ（旧G3）です。再起動して5年も過ぎた、今まで問題がなかった。見てみるとディスク・エラーではないでしょうか？
メールが届く度にディスク・エラーで保存できません。（嘘、何で....。どうして、今なの$%^&* )
仕方なく、メールサーバも米国に移行した。でも、最近1-2ヶ月にメールを頂いて、届かなかった方もいると思います。ご迷惑をかけしています。ごめんなさい。

移行が終わったと思ってから、問題が後二つ発生していました。最初はメールサーバの変更でOSXメールが（私の設定ミス）全メールを削除してしまいました。
ええええ、嘘でしょう！と思いました。今、バックアップから前までのメールを回復中です。でも、やはり一年のメールが6万通になると時間がかかるものです。

昨日、タイムマシンを入れ替えた、バックアップが完了するとディスクがまだクラッシュした。（なぜ...　??? )
ディスクの問題ではなく、Lacie ディスク・ケースのやつが問題のようです。あれを使うとディスクが次々壊れているのです。
もう我慢できません。最新の最高に面白いRAIDのようなシステムを注文した。来週中には届きます。
詳しいことは届いてからこちらで情報を載せます。バックアップ無しではイヤーです。

本日より、4Dで動作しているシステム以外はアメリカに移行した。4Dのシステムは書き直してから移行します。
メールも回復しました。後はバックアップなども来週中には復帰するでしょう！やっと、まだ正常な日々が戻るのを楽しみしています。

いろいろ、ご迷惑をかけました。ごめんなさい。

JExternal 4.1.3とJbyJ4.1.3は、4D v2004と4D v11で使用できます。4D v11で使用した場合、インテルプロセッサー搭載のMacを含む、4Dが動作するすべてのプラットフォームで動作します。しかし、これらのプラグインは、Rosetta上では動作しないため、インテルプロセッサー搭載のMac上で、4D v2004と一緒に使用することはできません。

旧バージョンをご使用の方は、ぜひ新バージョン4.1.3にアップグレードしてください。付属するデモも改善されています。

4D v11のUnicodeモードをオンにした状態では、4Dの内部では、C_TEXTとC_STRINGの区別はなくなり、すべてC_TEXTとして扱われます。同様にARRAY TEXTとARRAY STRINGの区別はなくなり、すべてARRAY TEXTとして扱われます。したがって、Unicodeモードをオンにした状態では、プラグインには決してC_STRINGやARRAY STRINGが渡されませんし、プラグインからC_STRINGやARRAY STRINGを返すこともできません。JExternalやJbyJによりコールされるJavaメソッドや遠隔の4Dメソッドの中で、C_STRINGやARRAY STRINGがパラメタとして渡ってくることを想定していたり、C_STRINGやARRAY STRINGを返り値として返えそうとするとエラーが発生します。現在はUnicodeモードを使用していない場合でも、今後のことを考え、C_STRING、ARRAY STRINGの使用は避け、その代りC_TEXT、ARRAY TEXTを使用してください。

■ 4D v11のC_PICTUREについて
4D v11では、C_PICTUREの構造が大幅に変更されました。現在のJExternalとJbyJは、4D v2004用のプラグイン開発キットを使用して作成したので、4D v11上でもほぼ今まで通りにC_PICTUREを扱うことができます。しかし、4D v11用のプラグイン開発キットを使用した場合は、これまでのようにはC_PICTUREを扱うことはできません。4D v11用のプラグイン開発キットを使用して作成されたJExternalやJbyJでは、C_PICTUREをパラメタとして渡したり、返り値としてC_PICTUREを受け取ることができなくなると思われます。今後のことを考えれば、C_PICTUREの使用は避け、その代りC_BLOBを使用してください。4DコマンドのPICTURE TO BLOBとBLOB TO PICTUREを使用すれば、型変換ができます。C_BLOBであれば、将来のJExternalやJbyJでも保証されます。

4D v11インターナショナル版に対応した4DプラグインJbyJ ver 4.1.1をリリースしました。

（4D v11の日本語版は、まだリリースされていません。インターナショナル版をMacで使用する場合、言語環境の設定を「English」に切り替えなければなりません。「日本語」のまま4D v11インターナショナル版を起動すると、日本語だけでなく、すべてのキーボードからの入力ができない状態になります。4D v11 Windows版の方が比較的テストしやすいと思います。また、v11の4D Serverは、インターナショナル版、日本語版を問わず、まだリリースされていません。）

JExternal ver 4.1.1の特徴

■　JExternal ver 4.1.1は、Universal Binary化されており、4D 2004と4D v11で動作します。4D v11を使用した場合、インテルプロセッサー搭載のMacを含む4Dが動作するすべてのプラットフォームで動作します。しかし、4D 2004をインテルプロセッサー搭載のMac使用した場合、Rosetta（エミュレータ）が起動してしまうため、JExternaは動作できません。4D 2004をパワーPC搭載のMacやWindowsで使用する場合は、問題なく動作します。

FrontBase 4.2.8がリリースしました。

メンテナンス・リリースです。

※余談
既にFrontBaseを使用して1年以上になります。本当に高速で安定して動作しています。本当に凄いです。4Dみたいに落ちたり、理由不明で落ちることもなく、動作しているのです。

現在はFrontBaseをWebObjects経由で4Dと同期させているのです。一日3000件のデータを追加しています。既に1,700,000件登録しているのです。軽い軽い。4D 2003で行ったごろではデータファイルが約5GBになり、毎月、必ず何回落ちたのです。

4D v11について

4D v11がリリースしまして、おめでとうございます。やっと3年ぶりのアップデートです。

デモ版をすぐにダウンロードし、お試ししたかったのですが、ダウンロード後にはデモ版を登録する為にアカウントを作る必要がありました。アカウントを持っていないので、新規アカウントを作るようにしたのですが、4Dのバグで登録フォームの入力は受け付けて貰えなかったのです。1時間後には次バージョンを待つようにしました。

プラグインの動作についてはまだ情報がありません。

Win版：情報がまだない
Mac版：PPCについて情報ない、

今回の4DがUniversalになった為、Intel版のプラグインへのバージョンアップになります。
詳しい情報が分かる次第、まだ案内いたします。

Windows Vistaでの4Dプラグインライセンスコードの入力について

Windows Vistaでは、管理者としてログインして、これまでのように弊社4Dプラグインのライセンスコードを入力しても、ライセンス情報は保存されません。このため、4Dを起動するたびにライセンスコードの入力が要求されてしまいます。これは、管理者としてログインしても、アプリケーション実行時は、通常ユーザとして実行するというWindows Vistaの「セキュリティ機能強化」によるものです。

Windows Vistaでライセンスコードを入力する際は、4Dのアプリケーションアイコンを右クリックして「管理者として実行」を選んで、4Dを起動してください。こうすれば、管理者権限で4Dを実行でき、ライセンス情報を保存することができます。これは、シングルライセンスでも無制限配布ライセンスでも同様です。

デモ版やソフトウェアのダウンロードに使用したFTPがいきなりアクセスできなくなりました。プロバイダーに聞いても
原因が分からないのです。プロバイダーのFTPの使用を辞め、こちらのWebと同じサーバで全部配置し直しました。

ご迷惑をかけまして、ごめんなさい。

２，３ヶ月以内にサーバをもっと高速のサーバに入れ替える予定で、アクセスがもっと快適になる予定です。

Removed 32k Row Display Limit
ALP 7.9 now supports 4 million rows, increasing the previous limit of 32,000 rows. In order to effectively use more than 32k rows and the support routines for getting or setting the selection, you must now pass a LONGINT array instead of the previous format of INTEGER array.

Added a new user preference to explicitly set the desired on-screen and exported cine frame-rate.
Enabling this function, overrides any DICOM info embedded in the image files.
Exported movie files were created using the frame-rate info embedded in the image files, without respecting any fps values set by the user. Fixed.
Exported frames with global measurements did not calculate their statistics correctly. Fixed.

All user measurement tools now respect the Tool Scope setting.
Added item "Propagate Measurement" in the Measurements contextual menu.
Use it to propagate a measurement drawn on the current frame to all the frames of the sequence.
Added item "Display Short Description" in the Measurements contextual menu.
Use it to hide the measurement statistics for the selected measurement.
Contextual menu item "Clear All Measurements" now respects the Tool Scope setting.
It clears either all the measurements of the current frame, or, all the measurements from all the sequence frames.
For polygon measurements, the length of each line segment is now displayed.
When using the measurement tools, pressing the space-bar, temporarily switches to the hand tool.
Added item "Draw line at 90°" in the Measurements contextual menu.
When used on a line measurement, it creates a line perpendicular to the target line at the point of clicking.
Dragging a line measurement's handle while holding down the Alt key, lets you change only the line length while keeping its orientation constant.
Holding down the Command key on Mac, or, the Control key on Windows (together with the Alt key above), while dragging the line handle, lets you change the line orientation but only at 45 degrees increments to its initial value.
Fixed the display of images with 16-bit Segmented Color Palettes.
When using the Metadata Export function, large elements are now correctly exported.

現在の弊社のJava関連のプラグインJWorld、JbyJ、JExternalは、インテルプロセ
ッサ搭載のMacでは、動作しません。原因は、次の通りです。

■JWorld、JbyJ、JExternalは、インテルプロセッサ搭載のMacで動作しない原因

インテルプロセッサ搭載の新しいMac上のアプリケーションには、２つのタイプが
あります。インテルプロセッサ本来のバイナリコードが実行されるものと、Powe
rPCのバイナリコードをRosettaというエミュレータを介して実行されるものです
。もちろん、前者がインテルプロセッサの本来の威力を発揮します。現在の4Dは
、後者のタイプで、Rosettaを介して実行されます。

一方、インテルプロセッサ搭載のMacで、Javaバーチャルマシンを起動できるのは
、インテルプロセッサ本来のバイナリコードだけです。Rosettaを介してJavaバー
チャルマシンを起動することはできません。この制限により、現在の弊社のJava
関連のプラグインは、インテルプロセッサ搭載のMacで動作しません。

弊社Java関連のプラグインが、インテルプロセッサ搭載のMacで動作するためには
、Universal Binary化されなければなりません。Universal Binaryとは、PowerP
C搭載のMacとインテルプロセッサ搭載の新しいMacの両方で動作するためのバイナ
リの形式です。しかし、弊社のプラグインだけをUniversal Binary化しただけで
は、問題は解決しません。4D自身もUniversal Binary化されなければならなりま
せんし、一緒に使用する他のプラグインもすべてUniversal Binary化されなけれ
ばなりません。なぜなら、アプリケーションを構成するプラグインの１つでも、
Universal Binary化されていないものがあれば、Mac OSは、そのアプリケーショ
ンをRosettaを介して実行してしまうからです。

これは弊社プラグインを使用していない場合でも、プラグインを多用するアプリ
ケーションには、大きな問題です。なぜなら、１つでもUniversal Binary化され
いないプラグインがあれば、それがアプリケーション全体のパフォーマンスを落
とすことになるからです。

弊社4DプラグインをUniversal Binary化することに技術的問題はありません。既
存のプラグインはすべてApple社のXcodeで作成されており、それを単にXcode2.2
で再コンパイルするだけです。しかし、その動作確認を行うためには、まずUniv
ersal Binary化された4Dが必要になります。

※全く同様の原因で、先日リリースした「F-ab」もインテルプロセッサ搭載のMa
cでは、動作しません。Universal Binary化することで、問題は解決できますが、
現在、「F-ab」を構成している「Revolution」というソフトが、まだUniversal
Binary化されていないため、ネックになっています。しかし、「Revolution」の
開発元は、いち早く自社製品をUniversal Binary化することを表明しているので
、「F-ab」は、そう遠くない将来、インテルプロセッサ搭載でも動作できそうで
す。

ースされました。

Mac OS X版J2SE 5.0は、Mac OS X 10.4が必要であり、古いMac OSでは動作しませ
ん。また、J2SE 5.0をインスールしてもMac OS X 10.4のデフォルトJavaバーチャ
ルマシンは、依然としてJ2SE 1.4.2であり特別な設定が必要です。設定について
は下記のページを参照してください。

上記の設定を行い、J2SE 5.0を使用可能な状態にしても、現在のJbyJ／JExterna
lは、Javaバーチャルマシンとして、J2SE 1.4.2を使用し、J2SE 5.0を利用するこ
とはできません。Windows版ではすでに利用できるので、MacでもJ2SE 5.0を早く
利用したいものですが、まずは4Dが安定してMac OS X 10.4上で動作してからのこ
とです。

追伸：
最近気になることに「Hyper-Threading」があります。
「Hyper-Threading」とは、Intel社のマイクロプロセッサ高速化技術の一種です
。「Hyper-Threading」を実装したマイクロプロセッサでは、シングルプロセッサ
のコンピュータをデュアルプロセッサのように振る舞わせることができます。ス
レッドを多用したプログラムでは、多いに効果を発揮するものと思われます。
しかし、この「Hyper-Threading」が4Dを不安定させるという報告が、上記でも紹
介したメーリングリスト「4D iNug Techinal」にありました。対策としては、BI
OSの段階で「Hyper-Threading」をオフすることしかなく、せっかくの高価な（？
）マシンも無駄になるらしいのです。

「Hyper-Threading」の問題と直接関係はないかもしれませんが、Windows版4Dを
デュアルプロセッサマシンで動作させても、１つのプロセッサしか使用しないこ
とはよく知られています。デュアルプロセッサマシンでWindows版JbyJ／JExtern
alを使用した場合、4Dのメインスレッドが動作しているプロセッサ以外で、Java
スレッドが走らないようにを制限を設けています。メインスレッドが動作してい
るプロセッサ以外のプロセッサでJavaスレッドが走ると、4Dが不安定になり、あ
るときは数秒で、あるときは数十分で、4Dがクラッシュしてしまうからです。
Mac OS Xの場合は、なんら制限することなくデュアルプロセッサマシンで動作し
ます。

JbyJ、JExternal、G.M.AのMac OS X 10.4 Tigerでの動作確認

先日Apple社からリリースされたMac OS X 10.4 Tigerで、JbyJ、JExternal、G.M
.Aの動作確認を行いました。その結果、これらのプラグイン自身は、Mac OS X 1
0.4 Tiger上でも問題なく動作できることを確認しました。しかし、4D社は、現在
の4DをMac OS X 10.4上で使用することを推奨していません。したがって、弊社プ
ラグインのMac OS X 10.4上での本格利用は、新しい4Dがリリースされるまで待た
なければなりません。

4D社のCEO Brendan Coveney氏は、４月２９日にメーリングリスト「4D iNug Tec
hinal」に次のように投稿しています。

4D is abuzz with excitement over the release of Tiger. We've spent
months testing and re-testing 4D 2004 with Tiger. Now we're revving up
to release 2004.2, our Tiger certified version, before the end of June.
The fusion of 4D and Tiger brings 4D developers the vehicle for
creating a new generation of impressive applications and we can't wait
to see what power-packed products you develop!

Currently we do not recommend any other version of 4D on Tiger. This
message will be updated in the days and weeks ahead.
