Digital
Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)
は ACR
(American College of Radiology)
と NEMA
(National Electrical Manufacturers Association)
によって、医療画像とネットワーク通信規格として開発されました。
DICOM's
multiple parts provide a means for
expansion and
updating, and
the design of the standard is aimed at allowing simplified
development for all types of medical imaging. DICOM also
provides a means by which users of imaging equipment may
assess whether two devices claiming conformance will be
able to exchange meaningful information.
The
DICOM Standard has reached a state of maturity and has been
embraced by the majority of medical equipment
manufacturers. DICOM-compliant
imaging and administrative software is being produced at an
accelerated rate as the proliferation of personal computers
has resulted in a decentralized distribution of computing
power and capabilities. Radiologists and physicians of
other specialties increasingly use digital image analysis
and computerized patient data management systems in their
hospitals and practices.
